Policy Hearing – Recovery Challenges with Substance Use Disorder
January 20 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
The January 20th policy hearing, hosted by Senators Muth, Kane, and Tartaglione, will examine the challenges facing individuals in recovery from substance use disorder. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, drug-related deaths have increased almost 30 percent nationwide, meaning getting individuals into recovery and treatment is more important than ever. But for those in recovery, the struggles are bigger than just getting sober — underfunded and unregulated recovery houses, and continued substance use-related issues like chronic relapse syndrome, pose an additional set of obstacles. This hearing will consider these three topics, examining how recovery homes can be improved to better serve individuals seeking treatment and what support systems are necessary to prevent a relapse. Representatives from state agencies, treatment clinics, and local recovery houses will discuss their specific needs and challenges, to help the legislature best address these gaps and support individuals through their own recovery.
This hearing will be virtual. Register in advance for this meeting:
