Harrisburg – April 30, 2019 – Sen. Katie Muth (D-Berks, Chester, Montgomery) is pleased to announce major investments in rail freight infrastructure that will benefit Chester and Montgomery counties.

“Investing in infrastructure always serves to better our communities,” Muth said. “The projects approved today will support rail freight transportation and jobs in the area.”

The approved projects include:

  • $1.6 million for Mittal Steel USA Railways to increase rail yard operation efficiency by rehabilitating a bridge, five turnouts, and more than one mile of track;
  • $500,000 for East Penn Railroad to rehabilitate 27 miles of track on the Octoraro Line; and
  • $700,000 for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority to install positive train control (PTC) equipment on four Pennsylvania Northeast Railroad locomotives.

“Ensuring rail freight operations in our area continue to operate efficiently is important for the local economy,” said Muth. “I am proud to see state investments supporting this vital industry and Pennsylvania businesses.”

The rail freight projects were approved by the State Transportation Commission and the Transportation Advisory Committee.
