UNION TWP, March 18, 2025: State Sen. Katie Muth (D-Chester/Montgomery/Berks) today announced that three Union Township projects in Senate District 44 received $166,000 in state grants through the Local Share Account (LSA) – Category 4 Facilities Program.

The Berks County projects were approved this morning at a meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).

“The funding announced today through the LSA Category 4 Facilities Program is great news for Union Township and for the SD44 constituents that live in this part of Berks County,” Muth said. “This funding will allow the township to be better prepared during emergency situations, make improvements to the Public Works building, and finally replace an aging and costly truck used daily by township employees – which was a priority for Union Township officials.”

Union Township received $100,000 toward the purchase of a new 2025 Freightliner truck for the daily operations of the township’s Public Works Department. The new truck, which will be used for daily operations that include road and park maintenance, will replace the township’s existing 27-year-old truck.

Union Township also received $45,124 toward the replacement of the existing rubber roof on the township building. The work will include the complete removal of the old roof and the installation of weather-resistant materials that will provide better insulation and the ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions.

Lastly, Union Township received $20,894 for the purchase and installation of a generator to provide a secondary power source at the Union Township Public Works building.

The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 2004-71), as amended, provides for the distribution of gaming revenues from Category 4 licensed facilities through the CFA to support projects in the public interest within the host counties. Eligible applicants for Category 4 LSA funds must be located in Berks, Cumberland, Westmoreland, or York Counties, and can include Counties, Municipalities, Economic Development Agencies and Redevelopment Authorities.
